With over four billion streams to his credit, Mr Eazi’s catalog is already iconic. It includes afrobeats classics like “Skintight” and “Leg Over”; two critically-acclaimed editions of his influential Life is Eazi mixtape series; a pair of EPs (2020’s One Day You’ll Understand and 2021’s Something Else); and collaborations with a who’s who of international superstars, including Beyoncé, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Burna Boy and Nicki Minaj.
His status as one of the giants of modern African music is indisputable. Few acts of his caliber have gone so deep into their career without releasing an album so, for his first, Mr Eazi knew he had to create something beyond anyone’s expectations, including his own.
The Evil Genius features what is by far his most personal work, as he dives deeply into subjects like love, betrayal, loneliness and family, expressed through three distinctive movements, or acts.
“It’s those extremes I'm trying to capture,” Mr Eazi says. “I go from cocky to thankful. There is a lot of reflection on the record. There is also some brag therapy. I want everybody to hear it, but I am talking to myself."
